While acknowledging the rationale behind the extraordinary decision to use EU humanitarian funding within EU borders, Caritas Europa fears that, by addressing this solidarity crisis as a humanitarian crisis, the EU is surrendering to populists and fearmongers. This puts at stake the entire EU project. EU Member States must start by abiding to the pledge of relocating 160,000 people and find solutions that will give people a future to believe in!
