Volunteers mostly work outside of the spotlight, and rarely get recognised for the work they do. This is why the global women's empowerment global organization, Zonta International, established the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program in 1990. The program goal is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs, by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. The award? Ten international scholarships of US$4,000 each, and up to 32 district scholarships of US$1,000.
