Under public pressure, Italy is preparing a “creative legislation” to allow more vulnerable savers to ask for compensation. But one thing is clear: common shareholders of banks could take the risk to pay biggest price for ‘bail-in rule': a mechanism that is supposed to make the Banking Union a success.

Despite repeated promises, the EU as a whole did not deliver on its commitment to spend 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) as aid by 2015. More worryingly, there is an emerging trend in EU countries to divert aid budgets from sustainable development to domestic costs associated with hosting refugees and asylum seekers.

Currently serving as Vice President of the Global Development Practice Department at InterAction, the US national platform of NGOs, Frigenti has also had a long career at the World Bank.
